Hawaiian Wildlife From a Helicopter Tour

Seeing Wildlife From a Hawaii Helicopter Tour

Most people take helicopter tours in the Hawaiian islands to see the lush landscape, live volcanoes and remote locations that you can only see from the vantage point of a helicopter tour. Hawaii is a landscape of extremes and a helicopter tour is the only way to see much of Hawaii's ecological diversity. Much of Hawaii's geography is extremely remote and inaccessible, which allows for some animals to flourish. Sometimes passengers on Safari Helicopters popular sight seeing tours (Big Island Hawaii deluxe volcano / coast tours and Kauai deluxe waterfall tours) are surprised to see various animals in the wild. It is not uncommon to see wild Hawaiian boar, Hawaiian goats and sometimes migrating humpback whales on there way back to Hawaii, to mention a few.

Wild Hawaiian boar and goats are the most commonly seen animals. They live high up in the Hawaiian mountains, near streams and waterfalls. The more remote the location the more likely it is to see one of these wild hawaiian beasts. Both the Hawaiian boar and Hawaiian goat were not indigenous animals. The Hawaiian boars were brought by the early Polynesians for food and the Hawaiian goats were introduced later as game. Both Hawaiian animals are still hunted in Hawaii. The Hawaiian pigs can get to enormous sizes and are prized catches for local hunters. The traditional Hawaiian luau is centered around the Imu pit where the Hawaiian Pig is cooked.

Probably the most exciting animal to see from a helicopter tour over either the Big Island of Hawaii or Kauai, Hawaii is the humpback whale. The humpback whales migrate every year to Hawaii to have their young and frolic in the warm waters off of the Hawaiian islands. They travel from the cold water of Alaska where they fill up on small fish before they begin there annual pilgrimage back to the warm waters of Hawaii. Once in the Hawaiian waters they eat nothing living entirely on there fat reserves. They travel in large pods which can sometimes make them easier to spot from a helicopter tour. It is absolutely amazing to see on of these incredible creatures from a helicopter tour over the shores of Kauai or the Big Island. No helicopter tour in Hawaii can guarantee that you will see one of these leviathans but if you look close enough you may get lucky. The Humpback whale season in Hawaii is in the winter time, usually between December and May. Be sure to have your cameras ready just in case you happen to see a big Humpback whale breaching beneath you as you fly overhead during one of Safari Helicopters exciting aerial tours over either the Big Island of Hawaii or Kauai.

To see unique Hawaiian wildlife from a Safari helicopter tour over either the Big Island of Hawaii or Kauai Hawaii is something not everyone experiences, but with a little luck and the right timing you may catch a glimpse of one of Hawaii's wild animals.
